New video game Gran Turismo 7 could skip the PlayStation 4 and come out with the next Sony console, according to industry sources.
If it is not so-called A "cross-gen" title or a game that will be released on multiple generations of gaming hardware, the PS4 will become Sony's first console without two sequels to the main Gran Turismo series.
Japanese studio Polyphony Digital already confirmed last month that a new GT game is under development. Representatives of Sony's studio have mysteriously stated that the upcoming work will unite the "past, present and future" of the legendary franchise.
Gran Turismo games have been widely regarded as the ultimate driving simulation for years, at least as far as mainstream entertainment is concerned. That perception began to change around 2013 and the port warm debut of Gran Turismo 6. While the next game, Gran Turismo Sport, in 2017 improved sales with around eight million units sold over the previous five, the franchise as such has been in decline for some thus, and its loss of popularity coincides with the upward trajectory of Microsoft's Forza series.
