The astronauts made the first cake in space

The astronauts of the International Space Station (MSS) baked the first cakes in space, but the process took much longer than on Earth.

MSS Italian Commander Luka Parmitano was the head chef and was assisted by NASA's Christina Koch in experimenting.

These cakes on Earth bake for 15 to 20 minutes, but astronauts have found that they need at least two hours in space. The first and second rounds of cake were spent in the oven for 25 and 75 minutes, respectively, but they were unbaked. The best results are achieved when the cakes are baked from 120 to 130 minutes.

A prototype of the oven, which can be used in microgravity conditions, was made and the crude cake mass was provided by the Hilton Hotel chain. Although the astronauts said that what they got resembled and smelled like cookies, no one had tried them.
