In the Russian articulated area of Jakuti
in Siberia, the head of a wolf from the ice age was found, about 40,000 years
old. This type of wolf is assumed to be from the time of the mammoth.
The head of the wolf found by Russian
scientists belongs to the wolf who lived with mammoths and was up to 25% bigger
than today's species.
A leading researcher from the local section
of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Valery Pkatnikov, states that this is a
special discovery because this species has well-preserved tissue, healthy brain
and tongue because it was always in the iceberg, while other discoveries of
wolves at that time had only bone.
